It is set to be a thrilling final to the Women's singles at Melbourne Park.

27-year-old Henin announced her retirement from tennis in May 2008, when at the top of the world rankings. After announcing her return to the sport last September, she has been in superb form and goes into Saturday's final with nothing to lose.

But Henin, even money at time of writing to beat the defending champion, will surely have at least some thoughts of emulating her compatriot Kim Clijsters, who herself came out of retirement last year and went on to win the U.S Open.

Although Serena is the slight favourite (4/5) going into Saturday's clash at Rod Laver Arena, we've got this down as being a closely fought final.

Henin will hope that the American isn't as fresh as a result of her playing in Friday's doubles final alongside her sister, Venus. Serena has also spent the tournament strapped up as she deals with some injury issues although they are not deemed serious enough to give Henin any kind of advantage.

For Henin to win, she has to play an attacking game. If she doesn't settle early, she may well struggle. But her form in this tournament has been good and her pre-tournament form has been even better.

The Belgian has had a tougher route to the final than Serena. She dropped sets earlier in the tournament against Yanina Wickmayer and Alisa Kleybanova, and was made to work hard to beat Elena Dementieva and Nadia Petrova.

But in the semi-finals, Henin needed just 50 minutes to beat Jie Zheng 6-1 6-0 in a one-sided encounter.

Serena reached the quarter-finals before she dropped a set, beating Urszula Radwanska, Petra Kvitova, Carla Suarez Navarro and Samantha Stosur all in straight sets. She was given a rough ride by Victoria Azarenka in the quarters, losing the first set and going 4-0 down in the second before fighting back to win in three sets and reach the semi's, where she advanced in straight sets against Na Li.

Head-to-head, Serena holds a 7-6 lead over Henin. On hard courts, Henin has won just one of their five meetings. But we wouldn't read a huge amount into those figures as the two haven't played since Henin came out of retirement.

Pre-tournament, our best bets for the Women's singles were for Serena Williams to reach the final at odds of 11/8, and for the winner to be a Belgian. Despite Serena being the favourite, we're confident of making it two out of two. With no pressure on her, Henin has the advantage mentally and is the fresher of the two.

Clijsters did it in 2009 and Henin can become the second Belgian in as many Grand Slam finals to crown a remarkable return to the sport. It won't be easy though, so the 3/1 on a 2-1 Henin win is of interest to us, and some may even take the 11/5 available on a straight sets win.
